LEKAN ANIMASHAUN - LOW PROFILE (NOT FOR THE BLACKS)
Tax included.
Lekan Animashaun’s Low Profile (Not For The Blacks) is a rare Afrobeat document from one of the key figures in Fela Kuti’s inner circle. Best known as Fela’s longtime baritone saxophonist and later musical director of Egypt 80, Animashaun recorded the album across sessions in Nigeria and on tour during the late ’70s, with Fela producing and contributing keyboards to the title track.
Built around the socially conscious groove of ‘Low Profile (Not For The Blacks)’ and the simmering anthem ‘Se Rere’, the record combines tightly wound rhythms with Animashaun’s message of dignity, integrity and social responsibility. Though recorded in 1977, the album did not receive an official release until 1995 on Fela’s Kalakuta label, making original copies highly sought after.
This reissue from Strut restores the complete original artwork, features remastering by The Carvery and includes new liner notes from Animashaun himself.
