A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans is Liars’ eleventh album, born from Angus Andrew’s unsuccessful campaign against corporate pollution in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Taking its title from a state law preventing local bans on single-use plastic bags, the record explores the exhaustion of confronting entrenched systems. Andrew works again with Laurence Pike and Cameron Deyell, building insistent synths and weathered vocals around cut-up political chants, breakbeats, guitar and piano. Written between the US and Australia, it turns bureaucratic language and environmental anxiety into something suitably uneasy and strange.
