Lush celebrate 35 years of their debut compilation Gala, the record that introduced the band to the US and Japanese markets in 1990. Bringing together the early EPs Scar, Mad Love and Sweetness and Light alongside a Robin Guthrie mix of ‘Scarlet’ and a cover of ABBA’s ‘Hey Hey Helen’, the collection captures the group’s formative rush of shoegaze and dream-pop brilliance.
For the first time since its original release, Gala is back in print, newly remastered in 2025 by Kevin Vanbergen. A deluxe edition features artwork by Chris Bigg (using original v23 designs by Vaughan Oliver and Bigg) plus a new biography from Jenny Hval. This anniversary edition follows recent remasters of Spooky, Split and Lovelife, and comes in the wake of the Criterion Channel’s release of A Far From Home Movie, bassist Phil King’s candid Super8 tour film honouring drummer Chris Acland.
