Created for Expo 2025 Osaka’s Forest of Tranquility installation, Masayoshi Fujita’s Forest of Tranquility takes inspiration from Japanese environmental music and the natural world. Marimba, vibraphone and percussion sit alongside Hayk Karoyi’s Armenian duduk and Mattias Hållsten’s Japanese shō, with field recordings of birds and frogs woven into the music. Recorded with plenty of space between sounds, its gentle movement and atmospheric drones reflect Fujita’s life in rural Hyōgo, where he works from a former kindergarten surrounded by mountains, water and forest.
