I Love You Ireland is Mohammad Syfkhan’s second album for Nyahh Records and his first made entirely from original compositions. Backed by a full band, with string arrangements assisted by Syrian cellist and composer Naseem Alatrash, Syfkhan combines fast Kurdish dabke rhythms with sounds recalling Fairuz and Umm Kulthum. The title expresses his gratitude to Ireland for giving his family safety, while ‘Ah Yu Donia’ addresses the loss of his son to ISIS. ‘Al Huriya’ brings an Irish reel into Syfkhan’s music, connecting his Kurdish roots with the country he now calls home.
