Mohinder Kaur Bhamra - Punjabi Disco
Tax included.
Originally released in 1982, Mohinder Kaur Bhamra's Punjabi Disco is considered the first British Asian electronic dance record. Produced by her son Kuljit Bhamra, it combines Punjabi folk, disco and funk with primitive synthesisers and drum machines, anticipating elements of acid house. Long lost, the album was reconstructed from rediscovered master tapes, revealing a pioneering fusion of South Asian tradition and electronic dance music. Naya Beat's reissue features remixes from Peaking Lights, Baalti, Mystic Jungle, Psychemagik and Danger Boys, alongside a cover featuring Piya Malik, Turbotito and Ragz, plus a previously unreleased track.
