Moth Traps - Truth Maps
When I left London in 2016 for rural Scotland, with a pregnant wife and a back-pocket stuffed with poems, I wasn’t sure how I’d cope with the change. Between nappies and late night feeds, I consumed books, ideas, music - all the things I’d never quite had time to properly invest in during the perpetual stimulation of urban life - and eventually began processing these ideas into my own compositions: the sonic soundscapes of Joe Meek; the baffling theories of quantum entanglement; the decaying excess of Stephen Tennant; the tragic resistance of German jazz fans to Nazi rule.
‘Truth Maps’ is the product of these mental peregrinations, exploring the intersection between the urban and the wild. Taking influence from the imposing landscapes of Scotland and the flickering memory-traces of urban explorations, the album occupies the shifting boundary between growth and decay; the past and the future; the savage and the tamed: the space at the edges of things.
