The enigmatic Mancunian electronic artist Bryn Jones, better known as Muslimgauze, tragically passed away in 1999 aged 37, leaving behind a remarkable archive that, in the last few years, has begun to gain the recognition it deserves. Genre-wise, Jones’s output is arrestingly heterogenous, taking the critical pulses of its time and rendering them into oblique, abstract synecdoches. Veiled Sisters, from 1993, is no exception, emblematic of the magnificence of his singular and bewildering discography.

This triple-LP edition marks the album's first appearance on vinyl, and, like much of the Muslimgauze catalogue, is dedicated to the Palestine Liberation Organization, its two halves – ‘Sister One’ and ‘Sister Two’ – calling on the history and conflicts of the modern Islamic world through cryptic titles and snatches of musical oration. Forgoing the raucous timbre and abrasion that Jones occasionally employed, Veiled Sisters balances a medley of instrumental bursts with a complex pattina of ambient atmospheres and drums, both played and machined, and a cacophony of samples which serve as a reminder of the sublime, haunting wonders that Jones was capable of producing. If you like Dean Blunt and Yves Tumor, Veiled Sisters will be an absolute treat.
