I’ve always loved the modest folksy charm with which Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood presented themselves – the title of this incredible Light in the Attic Records reissue (the first ever!) of the 1972 classic being a case in point; it’s as if the duo are saying, “Hey y’all, it’s only us with another li’ ol’ record – if you’d like to have a listen we’d be much obliged.” Such southern charm belies the fact that they are deity-like pioneers of cinematic, esoteric psych- and alt-country, and one of the most important female/male double acts in an exclusive pantheon that includes June and Johnny, Carla and Otis, and Jane and Serge. Nancy & Lee Again, recorded during a 1972 reunion, is an absolute all-timer that contains some of the pair’s most enduring and ambitious duets, including the epic ‘Arkansas Coal (Suite),’ the beautiful ‘Paris Summer,’ and the barnstorming, Dolly Parton-penned ‘Down from Dover.’
