New Age Doom join forces with H.R., the iconic voice of Bad Brains, for Angels Against Angels, released via We Are Busy Bodies. The result is a fierce meeting point between chaotic hardcore and spacious, bass-heavy dub — a sound H.R. helped pioneer, now refracted through New Age Doom’s experimental lens.
Drummer and co-producer Eric J Breitenbach describes the aim as pushing forward rather than looking back: not a nostalgia exercise, but a collision of histories to create something heavier and less predictable. H.R.’s voice carries survival, urgency and uplift in equal measure, cutting through arrangements that feel both volatile and expansive.
The project draws in an extended cast including Andy Morin (Death Grips), Jason Lindner (David Bowie’s Blackstar band), Alan Cage (Quicksand) and Alina Petrova (Pussy Riot’s Riot Days), alongside returning collaborators Tim Lefebvre, Dan Rosenboom, Gavin Templeton, Benedicte Pierleoni, DJ CrookOne and Cola Wars.
Across punk, prog metal, post-rock and deep dub textures — echoing elements of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s Guide to the Universe — Angels Against Angels captures New Age Doom at their most forceful and exploratory.
