The self-titled debut from Canalón de Timbiquí and Reco Reco brings together two distinct worlds with striking ease. Rooted in the Afro-descendant traditions of Colombia’s Pacific coast and shaped on the banks of the Timbiquí River, Nuevos Ríos centres on the commanding voice and songwriting of Nidia Góngora (Quantic, Ondatrópica, The Bongo Hop), whose presence anchors the project throughout.
Formed through improvised sessions in Timbiquí itself, the collaboration blends marimba de chonta, hand percussion and layered vocal harmonies with electronic textures, bass weight and amplified rhythm. Reco Reco’s trance-driven approach locks into the propulsion of Colombian Pacific grooves, creating music that feels both ceremonial and built for the dancefloor.
