Brazilian trio O Terno made Melhor do Que Parece in 2016, drawing on Tropicália, psychedelic rock and the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. Tim Bernardes, Guilherme d’Almeida and Gabriel Basile move between distorted guitars, swirling organs, horns, harp and sweeping strings, with echoes of Os Mutantes and arranger Rogério Duprat. From the catchy ‘Culpa’ and dreamy ‘No’ to the fuzz-heavy ‘O Orgulho E O Perdao’ and expansive title track, it’s a playful, melodic record packed with inventive arrangements and Brazilian psych-pop charm.
