Written in the years surrounding the arrival of children and the passing of parents, the record treats movement not as escape but as a cycle of departure and coming back.

Two well-loved songs form the album’s emotional spine. Jo Stafford’s ‘You Belong to Me’ informs the title and themes of separation and waiting, balancing romance with the unease of a shrinking world. Chuck Berry’s ‘Promised Land’ adds another kind of passage: a restless crossing of America that moves between tall tale and modern myth, ending not in triumph but with a call home.

The music was recorded at home over several years, built from electric guitar, rubber bridge acoustic guitar, Ableton Live, and Elektron Digitone. Mallory Linnehan (Chelsea Bridge) adds violin and vocals on select pieces, recorded one summer afternoon in Chicago with the windows open.
