Pictish Trail (aka Johnny Lynch) returns with Life Slime, his sixth full-length album: a strange, tender strain of psychedelic electro-pop shaped by exhaustion, hope, guilt and renewal. Written at home on the Isle of Eigg and recorded at Mike Lindsay’s Margate studio, the album refines Lynch’s distinctive blend of lo-fi electronics, warped pop hooks, baggy psych rhythms and direct, disarming songwriting.
Life Slime moves fluidly between woozy synth-pop, motorik drive and intimate acoustic moments, embracing the emotional messiness suggested by its title. Across the album, Lynch charts a journey from fracture toward uneasy release: guilt-stained psych-pop, late-night confessionals, expansive slow-burn centrepieces and cinematic closers all play their part. Punchy electro-pop sits alongside shoegaze haze, crystalline guitars and weary, bittersweet grooves, each track contributing to a coherent arc of surrender, resistance and change.
Produced by Mike Lindsay of Tunng, Life Slime captures Pictish Trail at his most open and assured, transforming personal turbulence into a rich, immersive album statement. For fans of Hot Chip, The Flaming Lips, Liars, Mercury Rev, Beck, John Grant, Empire of the Sun and Grandaddy.
