Plantoid return with their second album Flare, a record that builds on the intricate prog-rock foundations of their debut Terrapath while expanding into fresh territory. The trio of Chloe Spence (vocals/guitar), Tom Coyne (guitar) and Louis Bradshaw (drums) have sharpened their sound into something looser, groovier, and more exploratory.
Produced with long-time collaborator Nathan Ridley, Flare balances the time-shifting signatures, extended track lengths and unexpected freakouts that made their debut stand out with a more deliberate focus on mood and texture. Shoegaze washes, vocal-led hooks and carefully fermented grooves stretch the band’s style beyond its math-rock origins without losing the restless energy that defines them.
The result is a bold, sprawling nine-track set that pushes their songwriting to new depths, showing Plantoid as one of the UK’s most inventive and forward-looking rock groups.
