Valentine and Clementine Nixon, aka Purple Pilgrims, created Given to the Night while retreating from social media and into the trees of their native New Zealand. Written intuitively during a period of personal transition, the album inhabits the space between dream and reality, darkness and light. Floating guitars, entwined synths, tape hiss and spectral vocals move through isolation, joy, insomnia, grief and fleeting moments of understanding. With previous links to The Chills and Roy Montgomery, the sisters draw on dream-pop and ethereal atmospheres while following their own nocturnal path.
