Originally released in 2014, Ryan Adams’ self-titled album marked a return to a bold, electric sound after the largely acoustic Ashes & Fire. Produced with longtime collaborator Mike Viola, it drew on the raw energy of the music Adams grew up with – citing The Wipers, Hüsker Dü and The Replacements as key inspirations. The record reached number six in the UK and number four on the US Billboard 200, and earned two Grammy nominations at the 56th Annual Awards: ‘Best Rock Song’ for lead single ‘Gimme Something Good’ and ‘Best Rock Album’. Speaking about the decision to release it as a self-titled work, Adams admitted he simply couldn’t find a title that fit, joking that everything he came up with “sounded like a King Crimson album.”
