Saul Williams' Leap Life is his first solo album in more than a decade and a welcome return from one of spoken word's most distinctive voices. Named after his leap year birthday, the album was sequenced by producer and composer Carlos Niño as a continuous listening experience, moving between spoken word, ambient music and electronic composition.
Drawing on Black musical traditions, the influence of Fela Kuti and South African electronic music, Williams expands his sound while taking a greater role as producer.
