One of the most anticipated rock releases of the late '90s, Smashing Pumpkins’ fourth studio album Adore received a mixed response upon release in 1998. Perhaps unsurprising, as founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin had departed and the remaining members were riven by inter-band strife, with Billy Corgan attempting to take the group in a more electronic direction. Although it housed great singles in ‘Ava Adore’ and ‘Perfect’, its sales were just a fraction of its esteemed predecessors Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Time has been kind to Adore, however, and it’s now regarded as one of the greatest flawed masterpieces of the decade.
