For Soshi Takeda’s new EP – the follow-up to his 2021 debut Floating Mountains – the Japanese electronic artist explores the particular kind of nostalgia that arises from images in photographs and magazines of locations that have been lost with the passage of time. Beautiful instrumental modern ambient Balearic, which sits somewhere between the lighter modular synth tracks on Oneohtrix Point Never’s Returnal, and Australian producer A.r.t. Wilson, Same Place, Another Time is the perfect musical accompaniment for beach relaxation, as well a meditative salve for city dwellers, back from vacation, who can’t quite believe that they’re no longer prostrate and drinking piña coladas on a beach, but instead negotiating their way through aggy pedestrians on a busy London street. This is the perfect record for summer’s end, for it’s always sunny with Same Place, Another Time.
