Founded in Brooklyn in 2015, Standing On The Corner is the boundary-pushing collective led by Gio Escobar, drawing on musical traditions from the U.S., Puerto Rico and Africa. Blending soul, punk, salsa, doo wop, jazz, funk, rap and the avant-garde, the group's elusive approach has earned a reputation for unexpected releases and a fiercely independent creative vision.
SOTC "II" is a 15-track album recorded by Escobar alongside core collaborators Jack "Wacko" Nolan, Buz "Man-man" Donald and Clérida "Ca$h Clay" Eltimé. Moving between fractured psychedelia, rock'n'roll, no-wave, rap, R&B and post-hardcore, it captures a sense of uncertainty and unrest while refusing easy categorisation.
Guest appearances come from Solange, Danny Brown, Styles P, Ladybug Mecca, Claudette Ortiz, Sonia Sanchez, Bubba Dupree and The Warlockettes.
