STILL CORNERS - DREAM TALK
Released: 26/04/24
Still Corners: the perfect band for those in the Venn diagram of people who love Captured Tracks, Fleetwood Mac, Sade, and krautrock (🙋‍♀️). Anyway, as you’d expect, the sixth album from the British-American dream pop duo is yet more songcraft of the highest order: beautifully arranged, elegant, seductive, wistful and oneiric in equal measure – the last descriptor making sense given that many of vocalist Tessa Murray’s lyrics here are based on her dreams, which, in the songwriting process, she would sing over various looped phrases created by her musical other half Greg Hughes. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly, but there is a transportive element to Dream Talk’s perfectly constructed tracks, and after finishing the LP I felt contentedly languorous and relaxed – pleasantly brain-fuzzy, as if I’d spent the afternoon under the sun. Can a record give you mild heat stroke? Not sure, but Dream Talk might be the next best thing to lying on a beach.
