Whatever you think about the bloated plod-rock of the later Oasis albums; the hilariously stupid stories that makesSpinal taplook like a sombre Errol Morris documentary (how about  the 1996MTV Unpluggedshow, for which Liam declined to join the group on stage, instead opting to sit in the audience and heckle his bandmates throughout the set); and the embarrassing, internecine sibling rivalry that would ultimately do for them (choice quote from Noel about Liam: He's the angriest man you'll ever meet. He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup), the debut album,Definitely Maybe, was an absolute corker: all no-frills, hi-octane rock that sounded like a hybrid of T-Rex and the New York Dolls.

One of the very best tracks on that LP was, of course, debut single Supersonic', which has now been reissued (for the first time) on pearl-white 7 vinyl to celebrate its 30th anniversary. While Proust had his madeleines, I have Supersonic', a track that conjures happy memories of being a callow teenager at Knebworth, mildly stoned and quite a bit drunk, grinning ear to ear as Liam intones the immortals line She done it with a doctor on a helicopter, while nearby my friend Rob, in a fluorescent-yellow Adidas tracky top, sells pills by the mixing desk. Halcyon days.
