Teresa Winter joins Guest and A.Childs of Jabu, alongside longtime collaborator Birthmark, for a spontaneous ambient–folk–dream-pop session shaped entirely in the moment. The recordings capture an evening in autumn 2023 at the Jabu home studio in south Bristol, where the four musicians gathered while Winter was in town for a show.
Everything was played live to desk in single takes with no edits or overdubs. Instruments were swapped freely, effects were left humming on the floor, and the music unfolded with the loose, intuitive energy of people following each other’s impulses. Winter and Guest shaped their vocals from whatever texts were at hand – poetry books, scraps from a Whole Earth Catalog – their lines weaving and echoing in unplanned harmony.
The instrumentals mirror this instinctive approach: a bassline, a synth drone or a flicker of chord often provides a centre, but the pieces constantly hover between coherence and collapse, drifting into softer, more drowsy territory as the night wears on. By the closing refrain of ‘say you think it’s true’, the sound dissolves into buzzing pedals and far-off synth trails – a final, flickering swan song formed in real time.
