Merge Records reissues The Clientele’s debut album The Violet Hour, making it widely available on vinyl in North America for the first time. Originally issued in 2003 on Pointy, the record has long been out of print and highly sought after.
Following the acclaim of Suburban Light, the trio of Alasdair MacLean, Mark Keen and James Hornsey entered London’s Medina Road Studios in 2002 to create a full-length statement. Their blend of ’60s psychedelia and modern fuzz-pop opened out into more expansive forms, touched with jazz inflections and a sharpened sense of atmosphere.
