“You’ve got to die and be reborn between albums,” says guitarist Henry Wade, reflecting on the transformation behind The Orielles’ fourth studio album, Only You Left. “It comes naturally,” adds singer and bassist Esmé Hand-Halford. Through that process of renewal, the Manchester-based trio — completed by drummer Sidonie Hand-Halford — have weathered a pandemic, sidestepped fleeting trends, and emerged with music that feels both instinctive and revitalised.
Recorded between Hydra and Hamburg in the summer of 2024, Only You Left fuses the adventurous scope of Tableau (2022) with the sharper focus of their earlier material. “There’s nothing more trad than a three-piece,” says Wade, referring to the group’s decision to strip things back to their core formation.
Originally from Halifax, The Orielles made their breakthrough with 2018’s Silver Dollar Moment. Nearly a decade later, Only You Left completes a creative cycle — a record shaped by friendship, time, and the constant need to find meaning through music.
