Hot Dreams is the fifth album by Timber Timbre, a Canadian musical ensemble helmed by Taylor Kirk, known for creating soft, creeping, country-tinged ballads in the vein of Lambchop, Tindersticks and Richard Hawley, perhaps with a little of Portishead's production thrown in for good measure.
Here the songs are deceptively simple in their construction, layered with deft arrangements of brass and choral singing, produced with an ear for old soul records warped by time and a little wobbly sounding. The result is eerie, emotive and enthralling.
