VA / Soul Jazz Records Presents - STUDIO ONE DJ’s 2

Studio One DJ’s 2 gathers eighteen cuts from Jamaica’s great toasting tradition, recorded under Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd at Studio One. DJ heavyweights Dennis Alcapone, Lone Ranger, Prince Jazzbo and King Stitt sit alongside less familiar names including Bobby Jackie, Jah Jesco and Little Joe. Backing comes from Studio One regulars The Skatalites, The Sound Dimension, Soul Vendors and Soul Defenders, supplying rhythms that became fundamental to reggae’s development. Compiled by Mark Ainley, it’s a strong survey of Studio One’s DJ output.
