disco and boogie, following the much-loved Sharayet El Disco. Drawing from Cairo’s fertile cassette scene, the compilation shines a light on a vibrant, DIY culture where funk and synth-driven pop flourished beyond the mainstream.
Featuring cuts by Ammar El Sherei, Al Massrieen and other key figures of the era, many of these tracks appear on vinyl for the first time. It’s a rich snapshot of a period when imported disco met local melodies, analogue drum machines and home-studio ingenuity.
The audio is remastered for vinyl by David Hachour at Colorsound Studio in Paris. Artwork by Egyptian designer Heba Tarek is complemented by a two-page insert reproducing original cassette sleeves, alongside liner notes by Moataz Rageb that place the music in its cultural context.
Released by Wewantsounds, Ayam El Disco captures the colour, rhythm and independent spirit of Egypt’s 80s dance underground.
