Beirut City Pop gathers ten recordings from Lebanon’s private-press cassette scene of the late 1970s and 1980s. Made by short-lived bands and studio projects, the music spans disco, pop, soul, jazz, bossa, rock and AOR. Many of these tapes circulated only among friends and local communities during the Lebanese civil war. Musicians frequently crossed paths at Ziad Rahbani’s Bypass Studio, creating a close-knit network represented here by Stephanie Stephanou, Force, Games, Andromeda and Walid Itayim.
