Kurt Vile - (Watch My Moves)
Released: 15/04/22
In describing Kurt Vile's oeuvre, I really can't help but use what is, to many, a culturally offensive word. VIBES. There, I said it. To be more exact, HEAVY VIBES. For this, I do not apologise, for the only other way I can some up the sheer joy of putting on a Kurt Vile record, is that it elicits a feeling akin to taking a bath in warm milk. Which is of course silly, because I've never done something so decadent as drawing a warm-milk bath, as I'm not an Egyptian queen from antiquity. So I'll think you'll agree that heavy vibes' sounds pretty sensible in comparison. Les mots juste,as it were. Pretentiously dropping French phrases is going too far you say? Fair enough, but I stand by my argument, for with (Watch my Moves), confounding parentheses and a Cummingsian disregard for capitalisation notwithstanding, Vile once again proves that he is a true poet, and a purveyor of idiosyncratic, left-field blues that impacts the listener on an an elemental level.
