WET LEG - WET LEG
Released: 08/04/22
Despite the awesome Wet Leg being hands down the breakout UK guitar band of 2021, selling out venues and packing out festival tents along the way on the back of their cathartic and joyfully scuzzy sound, the most remarkable thing about the band – comprised of Isle of Wight natives Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – might be that they managed to get a song called ‘Wet Dream’ A-listed on 6 Music. Bravo.
The duo's self-titled debut, then, delivers on the promise of the first singles, and then some. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what’s so great about Wet Leg, but one aspect, certainly, is the mix of Teasdale’s deadpan vocals, delivering often hilariously filthy lyrics (‘Mummy, daddy, look at me / I went to school and I got a degree / All my friends call it the big D / I went to school and I got the big D’, goes single ‘Chaise Longue’), with simply great hooks and some super heavy guitars that even J Mascis, Kim Deal or Kevin Shields would be proud of – and it doesn’t get much better than that.
